Abstract:

Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) are two-dimensional, porous, and crystalline organic structures. The well-established frameworks provide ordered mesopores, structural stability, high density, and negligible solubility, which are particularly attractive for battery electrodes. By integrating a redox-active azo group to COFs, we designed positive organic electrodes and applied these electrodes for nonaqueous Li-ion batteries. The azo group can undergo two electrons transfer, whereas its reversibility and stability are highly dependent on adjacent functional groups [1,2]. We developed three azo-integrated COFs with three different linkages, -ketoenamine, imine, and thiazole-fused ring. These azo-COFs had identical hexagonal P6/m space groups, ~3 nm of pore size, and 600~1000 m2 g–1 of surface area. However, the redox chemistries of azo groups were remarkably distinct from the linkages. The-ketoenamine and imine based azo-COFs showed irreversible azo reactions, resulting in poor capacity retention. In contrast, the fully conjugated COF containing the thiazole-fused ring rendered excellent cycling stability showing 5000 cycles at 10 C. The reversible azo reaction was also demonstrated by using operando Raman spectroscopy. This result corresponded to the single and sharp redox wave at a formal potential of ~1.7 V vs. Li/Li+, suggesting the one-step two electrons transfer. The solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) was formed at the initial cycles only, which could protect the COF surface and inhibit the continuous decomposition of the electrolyte solution. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) revealed the low charge transfer resistance (~18 Ω), which decreased further after 20 cycles (~6 Ω). The mass transport region in the EIS curve was retained, indicating the access of Li+ to the bulk COF structure through mesopores for cycling. In the presentation, I will discuss the details of COF designs and the role of linkages enhancing the reversible and stable redox reactions in Li-ion cells. Abstract:

Objective. The aim of this study is to systematically evaluate the evidence whether traditional Chinese herbal patches (TCHPs) for osteoarthritis (OA) are effective and safe and analyze their medication patterns.Methods. A systematic literature search was performed using all the possible Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and keywords from January 1979 to July 2013. Both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies were included. Estimated effects were analyzed using mean difference (MD) or relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) and meta-analysis.Results. 86 kinds of TCHPs were identified. RCTs and controlled clinical trials (CCTs) which were mostly of low quality favored TCHPs for local pain and dysfunction relief. TCHPs, compared with diclofenac ointment, had significant effects on global effectiveness rate (RR = 0.50; 95% CI (0.29, 0.87)). Components of formulae were mainly based on the compounds “Xiao Huo Luo Dan” (Minor collateral-freeing pill) and “Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang” (Angelicae PubescentisandLoranthidecoction). Ten kinds of adverse events (AEs), mainly consisting of itching and/or local skin rashes, were identified after 3-4 weeks of follow-up.Conclusions. TCHPs have certain evidence in improving global effectiveness rate for OA; however, more rigorous studies are warranted to support their use.

Abstract:

BackgroundGout is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular comorbidities and premature mortality. Many epidemiologic studies support an association between gout and increased risk of diverse cardiovascular diseases. There has been no study on cardiovascular risks and mortality in Korean patients with gout with large scale data. Therefore, we intended to investigate the risk of each specific cardiovascular disease and mortality in Korean patient with gout with the national insurance database. The purpose of this study is to investigate cardiovascular risks and mortality in Korean patient with gout.ObjectivesThe purpose of this study is to investigate cardiovascular risks and mortality in Korean patient with gout.MethodsUsing Korean National Health Insurance Service data, we conducted a cohort study on gout patients. Gout patients were defined as those aged ≥ 20 years who were diagnosed as gout between 2009 and 2010, and control patients were matched with gout patients (1:1 ratio) after frequency matching for age, sex and index year. Primary outcomes were ischemic heart disease (IHD), acute myocardial infarction (AMI), congestive heart failure (CHF), cerebrovascular disease (CVD), cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, or transient ischemic attack (TIA). Secondary outcomes were all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. We calculated hazard ratio (HR) in Cox regression, adjusting potential confounders.ResultsThis study included 3,306 gout patients and an equal number of matched controls. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that gout patients showed increased risks of IHD (HR 1.860, 95% CI 1.446-2.392), AMI (HR 3.246, 95% CI 1.460-7.217), CVD (HR 1.552, 95% CI 1.177-2.036) after adjusting age, sex, laboratory findings, comorbidities, and medication (Table 1). However, statistical differences were not found in the risks of CHF, cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, TIA, all-cause mortality, and cardiovascular mortality.Table 1.Multivariate Cox proportional HRs for cardiovascular risks of gout patientsOutcomeHR95% CIP-valueIschemic heart disease1.8601.446-2.392<0.001Acute myocardial infarction3.2461.460-7.2170.004Congestive heart failure1.3990.853-2.2950.183Cerebrovascular disease1.5521.177-2.0460.002Cerebral infarction1.0610.687-1.6370.790Cerebral hemorrhage0.7790.283-2.1450.629Transient ischemic attack1.2330.651-2.3360.521All-cause mortality1.1990.737-1.9520.465Cardiovascular mortality1.3770.452-4.1880.573HR, hazard ratio; CI, confidence interval.ConclusionOur study showed that cardiovascular risks of Korean patients with gout were increased, especially IHD, AMI and CVD.References[1]Kuo CF, See LC, Luo SF, Ko YS, Lin YS, et al. 2010. Abstract:

Abstract Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-targeted therapy is a promising strategy for the treatment of ALK-positive neuroblastoma (NB). Several ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitors (ALK TKIs) have been approved for the treatment of Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma (NSCLC) and are currently in clinical trials for NB therapy. Recent evidence reported that ALK TKI resistance can occur in cancer patients, making the long-term efficacy of these therapies challenging. With the use of high-throughput and genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 knockout screens, we identified loss of genes associated with decreased sensitivity to ALK TKIs in ALK-positive NB cells. Specifically, we discovered that CRISPR-Cas9 mediated knockout of miR-1304-5p desensitises ALK-positive NB to the ALK TKIs brigatinib and ceritinib. Inhibition of miR-1304-5p decreased, while mimics increased the sensitivity of NB cells to these ALK TKIs. Furthermore, we showed that miR-1304-5p targets the RAS/MAPK pathway, thereby decreasing cell viability via induction of apoptosis. Among the targets of miR-1304-5p, NRAS expression levels are of prognostic significance to NB patients suggesting it may drive an aggressive disease phenotype. Indeed, a combination treatment applying ALK TKIs and miR-1304-5p mimics increased treatment response. A similar effect was achieved using RAS pharmacological inhibition, which resulted in synergistic activity in MYCN Wild Type (WT) but had less effect on MYCN-amplified cells, suggesting that this pathway could be differentially regulated according to MYCN status. miR-1304-5p and NRAS expression, in patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) of high-risk NB harbouring ALK mutations, confirmed the relevance of this regulatory axis in NB and suggested that the reduced ALK TKI response in MYCN-positive PDXs could be due to inhibition of miR-1304-5p, and the combination of ALK and NRAS inhibition showed extraordinary anti-tumor efficacy compared to single agents. These findings suggest that the miR-1304-5p/NRAS axis alters the sensitivity of NB to ALK inhibitors and suggest that the modulation of this pathway in combination with ALK inhibition is a promising approach to improve NB treatment response and ultimately patient survival. Abstract:

Background:Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) suffer from severe morbidity and mortality1-4, either from the disease itself or from side effects of immunosuppression5. Discovery of novel effective therapies with less toxicity is an urgent need. Objectives:The aim of this study is to elucidate the therapeutic potential and working mechanism of cytokine CXCL5 in lupus mice. Methods:Treatment with CXCL5, bone marrow (BM)-MSCs, standard of care (SOC) with combination of methylprednisolone and cyclophosphamide was given to 16-week-old Faslprmice. Mice were monitored for 10 weeks. Splenic immune cell subsets were measured by flow cytometry. Circulating cytokine and immunoglobulin were detected by Luminex technology. Renal function was evaluated by urinary spot albumin creatinine ratio. In situ renal immune cell infiltration and complement 3 deposition were detected by Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining and immunohistochemistry.Results:CXCL5 demonstrated consistent and potent immunosuppressive capacity in suppressing SLE with reduced autoantibody secretion, lymphoproliferation and preserved kidney function. With further exploration, we proved that CXCL5 reduced the proliferation of helper T cells (TH1 and TH2) in thein vitrofunctional assay. When we administrated CXCL5 to lupus mice, it promoted the proliferation of regulatory T cells and reduced the proliferation of TH17 cells, macrophages and neutrophils. Multiple proinflammatory cytokines including IL-2, IL-6, IL-12, IL-17A, KC/CXCL1, MIP-1β/CCL4 and TNF-α were also reduced. When combined with SOC, CXCL5 boosted its therapeutic effect and reduced the relevant indices of disease activity. When we correlated the effect of four different treatment groups (CXCL5, BM-MSCs, SOC, and CXCL5 plus SOC) on mice survival and target cell changes, we found that TH17 cells were the key effector cells involved in the pathogenesis of SLE.Conclusion:These findings demonstrated that CXCL5 dampens inflammation in the pre-clinical model of systemic lupus erythematosus via the orchestral effect of regulating neutrophil trafficking and suppressing helper T cell-mediated immune response. Administrating exogenous CXCL5 might be an attractive option to treat patients with lupus.References:[1]Ji S, Guo Q, Han Y, Tan G, Luo Y, Zeng F. Abstract:

Paris Linnaeus (1753: 367) comprises 28 species of perennial herbs, mainly distributed in eastern Asia (Osaloo & Kawano 1999, Liang & Vitor 2000, Li et al. 2017, Ji et al. 2017, Wang et al. 2017). These species are also known as chong-lou in Chinese and are used as traditional medicines, the thick rhizome being used as analgesic, haemostatic, anticarcinogen, antineoplastic and anti-inflammatory (Wang et al. 2015, Li et al. 2015, 2017, Ji et al. 2017). This genus traditionally was placed in Liliaceae or Trilliaceae, which was divided into two genera based on floral merosity, namely Trilliun Linnaeus (1753: 340) and Paris (Li 1984; Zomlefer 1997; Li 1998). Paris was revised recently by molecular phylogenetic approaches and placed in Melanthiaceae (Ji et al. 2006, APG IV 2016, Kim et al. 2016).

Abstract:

Abstract Fanconi anemia (FA), a model syndrome of genome instability, is caused by a deficiency in DNA interstrand crosslink (ICL) repair resulting in chromosome breakage. The FA repair pathway comprises at least 22 FANC proteins including BRCA1 and BRCA2 and protects against carcinogenic endogenous and exogenous aldehydes. Individuals with FA are hundreds to thousands-fold more likely to develop head and neck (HNSCC), esophageal and anogenital squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) with a median onset age of 31 years. The aggressive nature of these tumors and poor patient tolerance of platinum and radiation-based therapy have been associated with short survival in FA. Molecular studies of SCCs from individuals with FA (FA SCCs) have been limited, and it is unclear how they relate to sporadic HNSCCs primarily driven by tobacco and alcohol exposure or human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Here, by sequencing FA SCCs, we demonstrate that the primary genomic signature of FA-deficiency is the presence of a high number of structural variants (SVs). SVs are enriched for small deletions, unbalanced translocations, and fold-back inversions that arise in the context of TP53 loss. The SV breakpoints preferentially localize to early replicating regions, common fragile sites, tandem repeats, and SINE elements. SVs are often connected forming complex rearrangements. Resultant genomic instability underlies elevated copy number alteration (CNA) rates of key HNSCC-associated genes, including PIK3CA, MYC, CSMD1, PTPRD, YAP1, MXD4, and EGFR. In contrast to sporadic HNSCC, we find no evidence of HPV infection in FA HNSCC, although positive cases were identified in gynecologic tumors. A murine allograft model of FA pathway-deficient SCC was enriched in SVs, exhibited dramatic tumor growth advantage, more rapid epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, and enhanced autonomous inflammatory signaling when compared to an FA pathway-proficient model. In light of the protective role of the FA pathway against SV formation uncovered here, and recent findings of FA pathway insufficiency in the setting of increased formaldehyde load resulting in hematopoietic stem cell failure and carcinogenesis, we propose that high copy-number instability in sporadic HNSCC may result from functional overload of the FA pathway by endogenous and exogenous DNA crosslinking agents. Our work lays the foundation for improved FA patient treatment and demonstrates that FA SCC is a powerful model to study tumorigenesis resulting from DNA crosslinking damage. Abstract:

There are quite a number of differences between the unearthed Bamboo-Silk texts of Lao-Zi and the transmitted or received ones. in Bamboo texts, for example, is written as HENG 恆and JI 極 in Silk texts, and as 常 and 極 respectively in received versions. The fact that in the Silk texts 恆 is used as a modifier while 極 is not suggests a functional complementarity between the two. Furthermore, in reconstructed Archaic Chinese, 極 and 恆 share the same initial *g-, and their finals are in rhyme categories which are phonologically parallel and relatable to each other. 恆, which means long duration through time, and 極, which means overall spatial duration, are characterized exclusively by the core meaning of going through from a starting point to the end. Based on the evidence cited above, we propose that HENG 恆and JI 極 are derived from one and the same word family. While the Silk texts represent the period when HENG 恆and JI 極 were separately derived, the Bamboo texts represent a stage earlier than that derivation.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Lithium-metal electrodes are of particular interest for next-generation rechargeable batteries because of their high specific capacity and low redox potential. Therefore, Li-metal-based batteries may afford higher energy densities than commercially available Li-ion batteries with graphite anodes. However, various bottlenecks have hampered the commercial development of these batteries, including uncontrolled Li dendrite formation and huge volume changes during cycling. Consequently, Li-metal batteries suffer from low Coulombic efficiency and poor cycling stability. In recent years, there has been extensive research on the design and construction of three-dimensional (3D) porous electrodes that can host metallic Li. However, the low pore utilization and uneven Li plating remain crucial issues. This can be understood in terms of electronic and ionic transport through the framework electrode. The carbon frameworks exhibit high electronic conductance; however, large resistance to Li+ migration in the electrolytes of internal and interparticle pores inhibits the penetration of Li+ deep into the electrode. In this work, we demonstrate that a strong interaction between Li and a lithiophilic nanolayer on a substrate plays a critical role in enhancing pore utilization in carbon framework electrodes. As a model architecture, we examine a Li storage process in a framework electrode consisting of porous carbon derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and a galvanically displaced Ag layer on a Cu substrate (Cu@Ag). The electrochemical experiments combined with operando XRD measurements and microstructural characterizations suggest that a lithiophilic Ag on the Cu substrate preferentially reacts with Li+ to form Li x Ag during the initial stage of Li plating. This Li x Ag phase acts as a seed that can regulate the subsequent Li plating, promoting confined Li storage in the carbon framework electrode while suppressing top plating. Because of these advantages, the MOF-C framework electrode on Cu@Ag exhibits better cycling stability (>250 cycles) than the MOF-C framework electrode on Cu (140cycles). However, when the thickness of the MOF-C framework is increased to 90 μm, the diffraction peak for Ag remains dominant throughout Li plating-stripping, and the formation of Li x Ag alloys is not clearly detectable in the diffraction patterns, suggesting that only a limited amount of Ag is involved in the alloying reaction with Li+. Based on the computational studies, the efficacy of lithiophilic layers toward improving pore utilization is discussed in terms of the kinetic competition between Li+ transport through porous channels and the interfacial reaction of Li+ with the substrate. This study conveys an important message that the Li-substrate interaction plays a vital role in promoting the confined Li storage; hence, it should be considered a key design factor for porous carbon frameworks with high capacity and long cycle lifetime. Abstract:

A catalogue and bibliography of Batrachospermales (Rhodophyta) in China is presented. There are 33 species belonged to 10 genera and 2 families. Species distribution among the 10 gen- era are as follows: Batrachospermum, 6; Kumanoa, 10; Montagnia, 1; Nothocladus, 1; Sheathia, 3; Sirodotia, 4; Torularia, 1; Virescentia, 1; Lemanea, 4; and Paralemanea, 2. According to geo- graphical distribution, the members of Batrachospermales in China are composed of 3 types: cos- mopolitan (distributed on at least 5 continents or 10 countries of the world), 6 taxa; regionally dis- tributed (distributed in no more than 4 continents or 10 countries), 15 taxa; and endemic to China (collected, described and reported only from China), 12 taxa. Most species were distributed in East and Southwest China, up to or more than 20 species. Eight species were recorded in North and Central China, respectively. Only 1 or 2 species were found in Northeast and South China, respec- tively. However, no one has been found in the northwest China so far. Thirteen species of Batra- chospermales in China have been confirmed by morphological characteristics combining with mo- lecular data. But unfortunately, the other species are unable to obtain molecular data because fresh collections are not available, which need to be confirmed or rejected in future studies. Kylin, H. Abstract:

Abstract:

1. Zhang Y-X., Ge Z-H., Feng J. Abstract:

Objective. This study aimed to use multidimensional musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging technique to investigate the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on shoulder subluxation in poststroke patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain. Methods. In this prospective single-blind, randomized, sham-controlled study, thirty-four patients with shoulder subluxation and hemiplegic shoulder pain were recruited and randomly assigned into the EA group or the sham EA (SEA) group. In the EA group, EA was applied to the Jian yu (LI15), Bi nao (LI14), Jian zhen (SI9), and Jian liao (TE14) acupoints. In the SEA group, the EA was applied 15 mm away from the Lou gu (SP7), Di ji (SP8), Jiao xin (KI8), and Zhu bin (KI9) acupoints. Both groups underwent treatment 30 minutes/day, five days a week, for two weeks using dense waves with a frequency of 2/100 Hz. A Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment in reducing shoulder pain. Musculoskeletal ultrasound was used to evaluate the changes of measures of shoulder subluxation in multidimensions (i.e., the acromiohumeral distance, AHD; acromion-greater tuberosity, AGT; and acromion-lesser tuberosity, ALT). Both the within- and between-groups treatment effects were assessed. Results. The pain intensity measured by VAS and shoulder subluxation measured by musculoskeletal ultrasound (i.e., AHD, AGT, and ALT) showed significant ( p < 0.05 ) within-group difference in both groups. The between-group difference appeared in the pain intensity ( p < 0.05 ), while it disappeared in the three measures of shoulder subluxation ( p > 0.05 ). Conclusions. Using VAS for measuring pain intensity and multidimensional musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging technique for measuring shoulder subluxation, this study finds that the hemiplegic shoulder pain can be improved significantly by the EA while the shoulder subluxation cannot be. Our findings further reveal the analgesic mechanism of EA on hemiplegic shoulder pain following stroke.

Depression is associated with lower circulating endothelial progenitor cells and increased inflammatory markers. Objective: To test the hypothesis that depression status in subjects without cardiovascular diseases (CVD) or diabetes is associated with depletion of circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and impaired endothelial function.Method: Thirty depressive persons with the first episode of depression (case group) diagnosed according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) and 30 healthy people (control group) were investigated. The depression status was estimated using Hamilton Rating Scale of Depression from which the criteria of depression are determined to be >21 score. EPCs labeled with CD34-ECD, CD133-phycoerythrin and kinase insert domain receptor (KDR)-fluorescein isothiocyanate antibodies were counted by flow cytometry in the peripheral blood of patients and control subjects. Mononuclear cells that were positive for CD34/KDR, CD133/KDR and CD34/CD133/KDR within the lymphocyte population were characterised as different phenotypes of EPCs.Results: There were no significant differences in baseline clinical characteristics between patients and healthy individuals (all p > 0.05). However, patients with depression had significantly lower levels of circulating CD34+CD133+KDR+ EPCs (132.20 ± 17.27 vs. 225.93 ± 9.88, p = 0.000) and endothelial colony-forming units (26.40 ± 3.79 vs. 36.60 ± 2.88, p = 0.000) than that of healthy subjects. Furthermore, CD34+CD133+KDR+ EPCs had a negative correlation with tumour necrosis factor-α (Spearman's ρ = 0.433, p = 0.000) and interleukin-6 (Spearman's ρ = 0.441, p = 0.032).Conclusion: Our result shows that depression was associated with lower levels of circulating EPCs, which may contribute to the development of endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis.

Abstract:

Aqueous Organic Redox Flow Batteries (AORFBs) have emerged as potentially disruptive technologies for the storage of electrical energy from intermittent renewable sources for use over long discharge durations when the wind isn’t blowing, and the sun isn’t shining. AORFBs could become preferred solutions for grid-scale storage due to their potentially low-cost active materials, inherent non-flammability, and intrinsic decoupling of energy and power capacities. We have previously demonstrated that calendar life, rather than cycle life, limits molecular lifetimes in AORFBs due to various molecular instabilities that lead to side reactions, thus inhibiting performance [1]. For accurately determining molecular fade rates, we utilize potentiostatic holds to avoid artifacts caused by drifts in internal resistance and we study volumetrically unbalanced, compositionally symmetric cell configurations to distinguish molecular fade from membrane crossover. Our group’s synthetic effort has continued to improve molecular design strategies to the point that the most stable molecules degrade at less than 1% per year [2]. With further lifetime increases, the measurement of lower capacity fade rates now necessitates higher precision coulometry methods [3] and the use of thermally accelerated decomposition protocols [4,5] to determine which stabilizing approaches are most effective without waiting for multi-month cycling tests to quantify capacity fade. We have recently developed a high-throughput setup for cycling AORFBs at elevated temperatures, providing a new dimension in the flow battery characterization space to explore. An in-depth study comparing previously published redox-active organic molecules [2,4,6] has been performed using the protocol discussed above. Capacity fade rates as a function of temperature are evaluated in the high-throughput setup using high-precision coulometry, and the ability to extrapolate fade rates to lower operating temperatures is also explored. Collectively, these results highlight the relevance of accelerated decomposition protocols to expedite the screening process of candidate molecules for long lifetime AORFBs, which may enable massive grid penetration of intermittent renewable energy. Abstract:

Abstract Background: Previous study have indicated an association of microbial dysbiosis with stages of colorectal cancer (CRC). Meanwhile, higher microbial stochasticity has been introduced as the Anna Karenina principle (AKP) effect, which originates from the opening line of Leo Tolstoy and is translated in the microbiome as “all healthy microbiomes are similar; each dysbiotic microbiome is dysbiotic in its own way”. Here, we aim to elucidate the effect of modifiable factors on microbiome stochasticity related to dysbiosis in CRC. Methods: Fecal samples from 331 CRC patients, were collected prior to their surgery at Seoul National University Hospital. Bacteria that were enriched in early- and late-stage CRC groups were identified by linear discrimination analysis effect size (LEfSE) method, which was then used to calculate microbial dysbiosis index (MDI). The association of dietary choices with microbiome variability was addressed using the LEfSE analysis. The difference of intra-sample similarity index among lifestyle factors and metabolic diseases was tested to examine the AKP effect. A tree-based analysis of food choices was constructed. We then applied Procrustes framework to analyze the shape of dietary diversity and microbiome. Results: The LEfSE identified Leuconostoc, Oxalobacter, Acidaminococcus, and Methanobrevibacter were enriched in early-stage CRC, whereas Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Lachnoanaerobaculum, Clostridium, and Granulicatella were enriched in late-stage CRC patients. The MDI derived from these bacteria had 64.2% predictive ability for CRC stages, with sensitivity and specificity of 61% and 69%, respectively. The AKP effect was found for history of smoking, alcohol consumption, and diabetes, whereas obesity and hypertension showed anti-AKP effect. For dietary choices, the hierarchical tree of foods and nutrients did not shape the microbial between-sample diversity. Additionally, high MDI was related with a high intake of pizza/hamburger, poultry, and light-vegetable combination. Conclusion: Our study contributed to current evidence of the microbiome structure and dysbiosis at different stages of CRC. Furthermore, history of smoking, alcohol consumption, and diabetes showed AKP effect in CRC patients. Non-significant association between dietary choices and microbiome diversity supported a small variation of microbiome profiles explained by dietary intake at the population level. Abstract:

Aqueous Organic Redox Flow Batteries (AORFBs) have emerged as potentially disruptive technologies for the storage of electrical energy from intermittent renewable sources. With the goal of cost-effective, safe, and scalable stationary electricity storage systems, AORFBs could eclipse Li-ion batteries due to their inherent non-flammability, lack of materials scarcity fluctuations, and intrinsic decoupling of energy and power capacities. We have previously demonstrated that calendar life, rather than cycle life, limits molecular lifetimes in AORFBs due to various molecular instabilities that lead to side reactions, thus inhibiting performance [1]. The continued synthetic effort to produce stable redox-active organics has improved molecular design strategies to the point that the most stable chemistries now degrade at less than 1% per year [2]. In this presentation, I highlight a high-throughput setup we have recently developed for the electrochemical screening of candidate molecules in AORFBs. We demonstrate the effect that cycling protocols can have on measured capacity fade rates and propose figures of merit for cell-to-cell variability. Finally, we explore accelerated decomposition protocols to expedite the screening process of candidate molecules for long lifetime AORFBs, which may enable massive grid penetration of intermittent renewable energy. Abstract:

The paper describes the spelling of the consonants j, lj, nj, ć and đ and the groups consisting of the aforementioned consonants and vowels in The Aton Transcription of Dušan's Code, written in the first half of the 15 ͭͪ century. The consonant j has traditionally been marked with the grapheme i. The use of ] and E for marking of the groups [ja] and [je] indicates that the traditions of Raška orthography have been followed. Graphemes e and j have often been used to mark group [je], which is a typical feature of the Resava orthography school. The group ju has mostly been marked with }; there are only few examples with the use of M and ou. The grapheme i has been used for writing the group [ji] while the group [jo] has been written with the graphemes w and O. The examples from the corpus point to three ways of writing the sounds lj and nj (volna, vol`ni, kralq; kon`mi, konq, kw³). The group lja was marked in two ways-with the graphemic groups l] and the group la. When it comes to the group [nja], we noticed that the combination with ] predominated [nja]: kon]. To mark the groups [lje] and [nje] the combinations lE and nE were used. There are few examples of the groups [ljo] and [njo], which point to the use of graphemic groups lo and nw. The graphemic combinations with } were used to indicate the groups [lju] and [nju]. Contrary to the group [lji], which was always marked with li, the group [nji] was marked in three ways: knigou, pomanJi, prqvnQ~. Two different ways of marking the consonant ć are seen in the examples of vlasteli;ikq, vlasteli;i®. The group [ća] has always been marked with k]. The combinations g], d], ga were used to indicate the group [đa]. The groups with E are dominant in marking the groups [će] and [đe]. The only registered example points to the use of kw to mark [ćo]. The groups [ću] and [đu] were almost always written with the help of the graphemic groups k} and g}. More than one solution for writing the group [ći] has been registered: kouki, koukQ, vekQi. The group [đi] is written as kragi. The comparison of The Aton Transcription with The Baranja Transcription indicates a great similarity of these two manuscripts in terms of marking j, lj, nj, ć, đ and the groups consisting of the aforementioned consonants and vowels.

Abstract:

Lithium-sulfur batteries represent a promising alternative to the classical Li-ion technology, particularly due to the high specific energy density combined with the good environmental sustainability of sulfur. Compared to state-of-the-art cathode materials for Li-ion batteries (LiB), which usually contain cobalt and/or manganese, sulfur is less toxic and much more abundant [1]. Additionally, the theoretical capacity of 1.675 mAh g-1 is more than eight times higher than typical cathode materials as Lithium-Nickel-Mangan-Cobalt-Oxide (NMC), Lithium-Cobalt-Oxide (LCO) or Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) [1,2]. One of the main challenges of sulfur is the so-called “shuttle effect” [1,3]. During lithiation soluble intermediates (polysulfides) migrate to the anode side, further react and precipitate, resulting in a continuous loss of active material and capacity. Next to that, the poor electrical conductivity (5∙10-30 S cm-1) does not allow the utilization of pure sulfur as cathode material [1]. To improve the low conductivity, carbon-containing composites have been proposed as cathode material for Li-S batteries for several decades. One possible carbon matrix material is reduced graphene oxide (rGO) [4]. The reduced form of partially oxidized graphite (graphite oxide; GO) is a graphene-like material with high potential for a scale-up to mass production. In our group, we have developed a new synthesis method to rapidly reduce GO using a reactive spray drying technique, where most functional groups can be removed from GO within seconds. The rapid thermal processing leads to a reduced and exfoliated rGO, which still contains small amounts of epoxy groups within the carbon lattice. These remaining oxygen atoms influence the conjugated π-bonds of the graphene-like matrix and thus change the polarity of the surface. A thermal post-treatment for 2 h in Ar/H2 can further reduce the remaining functional groups leading to a highly non-polar surface. It is assumed that oxygen-containing groups (e.g. epoxy and hydroxy) result in a varying adsorption behavior of the polysulfides, affecting the unwanted “shuttle effect” and thus influencing the electrochemical performance [5]. Here, we show the impact of remaining functional groups in rGO on the electrochemical performance of S-rGO composites as cathode material vs. Li/Li+. We compare untreated GO to reactive spray dried and additionally (thermally) post-treated rGO. Furthermore, we analyze the composites in terms of asymmetric and symmetric bonding vibrations as well as crystallinity using FT-IR, RAMAN and XRD. Lu’s family played a significant role in the dynasty of Wu. After the fall of Wu, Lu Ji and Lu Yun migrated to Luo Yang, facing the contradictions between the south and the north. The feeling of loneliness and maladaptation were reflected through their literary works, however, the coherence could be obtained after collision. As Lu Ji and Lu Yun were the most important literaties in Wu, their lives and literary works could be regarded as typical in the group of migrants in the period of the early Six Dynasties.

Abstract:

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. This article indicates: 1. By investigating works from the Northern Song to the southern migration of the Song Dynasty, meaning of “Huaxu” depicted by Song people mostly not referring to the original essence of “Dream of Huaxu” of Huangdi which recorded in Liezi. On the other hand, it indicated most satisfactory living style within the secular world. Yan Shu, Su Shi, Lu Tao, Wang Ting-gui and Zhao Ding even directly used “Huaxu” as a metaphor for peace and prosperity of city; which was also the major context for Meng Yuan-lao to use “Huaxu” as a metaphor for prosperity of Dongjing (Kaifeng). 2. Dongjing Menghua Lu used the vocabulary “extravagance” for four times without an apparent critical attitude. Conversely, its preface “manipulated the derogatory terms for complimentary use” to emphasize idea of “extravagance strengthen people’s spirit”; which indicated “extravagant” value and living style was an important manifestation of Dongjing’s prosperity. 3. By comparing depictions towards prostitutes, evil youngsters and loafers from Dongjing Menghua Lu, Du Cheng Ji Sheng (Documenting Capital’s Glories), Meng Liang Lu (Dream of Grain) and Wu lin jiu shi (Old stories of Lin’an), Meng Yuan-lao was revealed not criticizing against these characters in Dongjing Menghua Lu, but the other three works derogated these people obviously. 4. Analyzing from perspective of interpretative History, Dongjing Menghua Lu may capable for intriguing association of irony; nonetheless, internal textual evidences as well as relevant external evidences had proven such interpretation did not comply with the main concept of the book, and even contrasted to the comprehension of Dongjing’s prosperity from Meng Yuan-lao.
