Happy 50th birthday to Stokie superstar Robbie Williams (2024)

We’ve compiled 50 photos to celebrate the star's birthday as well as speaking to his fans

Stokie superstar Robbie Williams turns 50 today, so we’ve compiled 50 photos taken throughout the singer’s life to commemorate the occasion. From joining Take That to becoming the new President at Port Vale, the dad-of-four has achieved a bucket load of accomplishments.

As a child, Robbie grew up in Burslem and Tunstall, and performed at the Regent Theatre and in plays and productions throughout the city. When he turned 16, he joined Take That and became a household name across the UK.

The Stokie bloke left Take That in 1995, with his first solo album, ‘Life Thru a Lens’ being released in 1996. Since then, the Vale fan has sold 75 million records and is among the best-selling music artists of all time.

Robbie performed a homecoming gig at Port Vale football grounds in June 2022, showing his fondness of The Potteries after the concert was postponed for two years due to covid. This was a remarkable occasion for many Stokies as they had been wishing for this performance back in Stoke-on-Trent for years.

In 2023, Robbie created a documentary on Netflix which showed unseen footage of the celeb’s life, as well as showing himself in a raw and vulnerable state. Last month (January), Robbie took the mantle of club president at his beloved Port Vale football club, and joined legendary John Rudge.

Super fan Steph Cresswell, from Abbey Hulton, spoke to the singer on a video call in 2019. She said: “Robbie’s like a fine wine, he gets better with age. I still think he’s very attractive. My favourite memory was when he performed at the Vale two years ago, and it’s great that he’s now the President there.

“He’s still a Stoke lad and he has a lot to do with the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice which shows what a nice and genuine bloke he is. He goes live on Instagram and keeps in touch with his fans all the time.

“The Netflix documentary was an eye opener for people who aren’t a Robbie fan because people thought he was a big head, but people can see for themselves that he’s just a person like anyone else.”

The 38-year-old added: “I’ve been a fan since he was in Take That, when I was a child. I remember it coming on the TV at the social club on a Friday night.”

Devoted Robbie fan Gwen ‘Rainbow’ Tate, from Chesterton, has a tattoo of Robbie’s face on her arm and added: “I can’t believe Robbie’s 50 - he’s catching up with me. I love him. I was in the ‘Angels’ music video. The documentary [on Netflix] broke my heart when he said he was scared to come back home and he’s depressed in bed and things.

“I’m so grateful he’s still here after all the crap he’s been through and I’m so glad he’s still here to entertain us. One little hate comment could push someone over the edge and people don’t think when they say nasty things.

“People think he’s arrogant, but he’s allowed to be arrogant, he’s Robbie Williams! He’s only arrogant when he wants to be, he gives it back and doesn’t take any crap. What you see is what you get with him and that’s what I love about him. More people should take a leaf out of his book.

“He looks amazing, he doesn’t look 50, and he’ll always be amazing. He’s such a good dad to his kids too.

“I’ve only seen him in person once because I couldn’t afford it, and it was the Vale. It was the best night of my life, I don't know if I’d go to another show because it was so incredible. I’d only go if it was back at the Vale again.

“I have a £5 note in a frame from a man who was given it by Robbie, he saw an article I was in and thought I deserved it more than him. During covid, I saw a limo at his mum’s house and I wanted to get him to do a signature under my tattoo so I could get it tattooed, but the driver said he wasn’t there.

“I’ve got a card for him and I hope he has a really good day. He deserves to enjoy himself on his birthday.”
