Workshop Contents & Schedule

Taking images from John James Audubon's iconic study of birds, make metal leaves and acorns in our proprietary Faux Tin technique. We'll explore non-toxic etching with a fun image transfer technique using vintage botanical illustrations. Fossilized agate will be the inspiration for a collection of clay beads. We'll combine our botanical creations into a series of pendants and earrings using elements from each project.

August 23rd, 6-8pm EST

Fossilized Agate Beads - We'll play with clay creating beads to mimic the look of fossilized agate. You'll learn several different bead shapes and finishing tips. This is a beginner friendly project.

August 24th, 11am - 5pm EST

Audubon’s Birds Faux Tin Components- Using images from John James Audubon's famous bird studies we'll create a variety of leaves and acorn pendants. We'll cut, file and sand our pieces to a buttery-smooth finish.

Image Transfer Etching Workshop - In the afternoon session, we’ll dive into salt-water etching. This non-toxic and low tech alternative to chemical etching will open a whole new world of metal working possibilities. I'll share a simple image transfer technique to use as our etching resist. I've gathered images from vintage botanical illustrations to compliment our Faux Tin birds.

August 25th, 1pm - 5pm EST

Field Guide Jewelry Explorations - We'll tie everything together with several jewelry projects. Learn to create wire links using a wire jig. We'll use the etching copper pieces to make pendants, charms and bails for our jewelry. Instructions and beads will be provided for the projects shown.

The classroom will include pre-workshop homework.
