Book reports: Judgement on Janus, Andre Norton, 1963. He sold himself into slave labor in order to buy some pain easem*nt for another. The colonizers of Janus were extremely strict in their farms and religion. Anyone finding a forbidden treasure was isolated until they got the green sickness and then left to die. But the green sickness was actually changing people into the beings that had the world before them. Each person transformed received most of the memories of one of the long deceased persons. Norton deals with magic and sci fi but more on the magic – otherwise known as the Powers of those who were before.

Space Cadet, Robert A Heinlein, 1948. Four young men meet when they meet and are sworn in as cadets of the Solar Patrol. Most of this story is about their training. After a long and intense training they are given a mission to investigate an incident on Venus. And then the fun begins. Enjoy.

C. B does make more sense over A but for stir-fry many use cole slaw. I have been buying cosmopolitan lettuce lately which is a mix between romaine and iceberg, so I get something for sandwiches as well as something that’s good for a salad.

“A”
‘B’ is tasty too, but it is a Pick-“One”……

Does anyone know what was happening on Meadow Lane last week? There were more police than I’ve ever seen.

Think about this a moment.
The Bay Area bridges charge tolls going only one way, at present. How long before some enterprising legislator comes up with the brilliant idea to go back to the old way, and charge for BOTH directions? That would raise a lot of revenue, and that’s what legislators really love. Think about it.

Screw the bridges. They already want to tax EVERYONE one on a per mile basis AND extend the toll lanes to all lanes of the fwy. You can thank your local politician.

Concerned neighbor of ConcordJune 22, 2024 - 8:20 PM - 8:20 PM

First commenter here. I am posting here because I can’t see any posts anywhere regarding a similar situation. Any of you all have random cars park at your house for different amounts of time, the people never get out of the car and then all of the sudden drive off?? There’s a car that is out front of my house now that has been there for over 45 min parked. I’ve never seen the same car twice and this happens at least once every week.

Maybe you or one of your neighbors are under investigation…. Or you could just call the cops for a suspicious vehicle, maybe they are casing the neighborhood, watching for the patterns of everyone’s coming and going

Doping up or Bow-Chicka’-BowWow…

.
You and the neighbors get together for about a week or so, and park all your cars on the street, At least they will go elsewhere…

You’re probably under surveillance!
Or maybe the space in front of your house is just a convenient spot to pull over and read a text message, respond to it or place a phone call?
Sometimes I’ll pull over to listen to something important on the radio or wait for directions from someone… kill some time rather than arrive too early to an appointment.
It could be a thousand different things…. Paranoia!
Nah…. I’ll bet you’re really being surveilled & you’re not as paranoid as you ought to be….
Whatever illegal stuff you are into you should just stop now & destroy all the evidence!

If you think the cars are suspicious, call the police.

Go outside and try to intimidate them into leaving. Once they realize they have been spotted by a neighbor, they will usually leave. Ask them if they need some help looking for something. This happened to me once, except it was a guy on foot just standing around at 1 AM. I approached him and asked him if I can help him, he made up a story about looking for a woman, he said she’s supposed to live around here. I told him to call her and ask for her address and directions, he left, and I never saw him again. If you are concerned about approaching them alone, get a couple of neighbors to go with you, or you can just stand outside in plain view, looking at them, and snapping a picture of their license plate. Sometimes a long stare is enough to make a person uncomfortable and leave.
